Mr James Johnston is currently an independent consultant. He holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. He was previously employed at DTS, Neural Audio, Microsoft, and AT&T. His work on perceptual audio coding has laid the foundations of the well-known MPEG-1 audio coding standard. He is a fellow of the IEEE and AES and the recipient of J. L. Flanagan Signal Processing Field Award from the IEEE SPS for his work on creation and standardization of perceptual audio coding. Mr Johnston will give a lecture on perceptual audio coding.
